Greg Schwartz

Greg Schwartz is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives representing the 12th Middlesex district, a position he has held since 2025. He is a physician and attorney who has dedicated his career to public service, healthcare, and social justice advocacy.

Schwartz has worked as a primary care physician for more than 20 years in Massachusetts. Beyond his medical practice, he is committed to progressive causes, including healthcare access, clean energy policy, and open space preservation.

Education and Legal Training

Schwartz holds a law degree in addition to his medical credentials, having attended Yale for medical school. He pursued legal education concurrently with his medical studies, equipping him with both healthcare and legal expertise to bring to his legislative role.

Political Experience

Before his election to the state legislature, Schwartz served on Newton's City Council from 2011 to 2019, where he chaired the Land Use Committee. During his tenure, he championed open space preservation, public health initiatives, and clean energy policy.

Schwartz's political engagement extends back to his college years, when he worked on the Dukakis for President campaign while majoring in government. He later worked in Washington for two congressmen and a senator, as well as for an advocacy group fighting against tobacco companies. In 2004, he volunteered on the campaign to guarantee health insurance coverage for all Massachusetts residents, which ultimately led to the passage of "Romneycare"—legislation that served as a model for the Affordable Care Act.
