Biography

Greg Nance

Greg Nance is a Democratic member of the Washington House of Representatives representing the 23rd Legislative District, which encompasses northern Kitsap County. Born on September 29, 1988, he grew up in a union household in Kitsap County as the son of a social worker and public defender. During his teenage years, he worked as a landscaper, house painter, and firewood splitter while attending Kitsap public schools.

Nance was appointed to his current position on September 18, 2023, by the Kitsap County Board of Supervisors, succeeding Drew Hansen who was appointed to the Washington State Senate. Beyond his legislative role, Nance is recognized as a businessman, ultramarathon runner, and youth mental health advocate.

Education and Honors

Nance attended Bainbridge High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete and debate champion, winning the state debate title in 2007 and becoming one of five All-American debaters. He was nominated by Congressman Jay Inslee to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point but chose instead to attend the University of Chicago as a Truman Scholar, serving as President of Student Government.

He earned his master's degree with a full scholarship at Cambridge University, where he studied management and innovation as a Gates Scholar. These educational achievements have been complemented by recognition for his public service, including a Jefferson Award as a "Globe Changer" in 2011.

Political Experience and Leadership

Nance co-founded Moneythink in 2008, a college-success nonprofit recognized by President Obama as a "Champion of Change" at the White House in 2012. Through his nonprofit work, he has helped students earn over $27 million in university scholarships. He is also the founder and former CEO of Dyad Mentorship and currently serves as Board Chairman of Moneythink.

In the legislature, Nance serves on the House Transportation, Agriculture & Natural Resources, and Postsecondary Education & Workforce Committees, and was elected Vice Chair of the Legislature's Maritime Caucus. His legislative priorities include fixing the ferry system, strengthening schools, expanding affordable childcare, improving reliable public transportation, bolstering healthcare workforce development, combating fentanyl, and advancing mental health initiatives. He also represents Kitsap on the Citizen's Advisory Group for the region's salmon recovery council.
