Biography

Grant Amjad Miller is a Democratic State Representative for Utah House District 24, serving since 2025. A Palestinian-American public defender and Utah native, he is the first Palestinian American elected to the Utah House of Representatives. His family moved to Utah when he was one year old. As a freshman legislator in the minority party, he passed bills reforming court fines, protecting domestic violence victims, and standardizing sentencing guidelines for public safety. He has opposed bills targeting the trans community, introduced a "Homeless Bill of Rights" protecting voting rights, employment, and property for homeless individuals, and advocated for labor, bodily autonomy, reproductive rights, and restorative justice to address mass incarceration.

Education and Political Experience

Education: Attended Jordan High School, Snow College, and earned a law degree from the SJ Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah in 2017, where he served as President of the Student Bar Association and delivered the student commencement address. Admitted to the Utah State Bar in 2017; awarded the Pro Bono Initiative’s Certificate of Service for 2016-2017.

Political Experience: Elected in 2024 after winning the Democratic nomination against Joel Briscoe and Ramon Barthelemy; unopposed in the general election. Serves on the House Judiciary Committee, House Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee, Criminal Justice Appropriations Subcommittee, and Retirement and Independent Entities Interim Committee. Previously served on the Liberty Wells community council from 2018 to 2024. Recognized as Utah Business "40 Under 40" honoree in 2023 and Utah Business Legal Elite.

Professional Background: Public defender and trial attorney handling thousands of criminal cases, including in Homeless Court. Former president of the Utah State Bar Young Lawyers Division; represented Utah at the American Bar Association YLD House of Delegates; former director of Wills for Heroes; volunteer at expungement clinics; board member of SJ Quinney College of Law Young Alumni Association.
