Biography
Graig Meyer is a Democratic state senator representing North Carolina Senate District 23, which includes Orange, Caswell, and Person Counties. Elected to the Senate in 2022, he previously served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 2013 to 2022, representing House District 50 , for a total of over a decade in the General Assembly. A trained social worker, he worked for 16 years in North Carolina public schools as coordinator of the Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate program , achieving a 97.5% graduation rate and 100% post-secondary enrollment for participants. His legislative priorities focus on public education, access to jobs and health care, justice and representation, climate action, and government transparency. Notable achievements include passing bipartisan legislation to support families with disabled children, protect kids from online predators, simplify guardianships for aging adults, and reduce mortgage costs; co-founding caucuses on Early Childhood Education and Life Sciences; and receiving awards such as Legislator of the Year from Equality NC and Young Democrats of North Carolina, Green Tie Rising Star from League of Conservation Voters, and the 2024 Sunshine Award from NC Open Government Coalition.
