Biography
Gloristine Brown is a Democratic representative for District 8 in the North Carolina House of Representatives, serving since 2023. She currently holds the position of House Democratic Whip during the 2025-2026 session. An Eastern North Carolinian born and raised, Brown grew up working in tobacco fields and later worked as a nurse at Pitt Memorial Hospital. In 2014, she made history as the first Black mayor of Bethel, where she revitalized the town by opening a state-of-the-art Youth Center, renovating the Senior Center, and reducing residents' water and sewer bills by 23%. In the State House, she advocates for affordable health care, high-quality public education, and bringing good-paying jobs to Eastern North Carolina.
