Biography
Ginny Shaver is a Republican member of the Alabama House of Representatives representing District 39. She assumed office on November 6, 2018, succeeding Democrat Richard Lindsey, and was re-elected in 2022 with 99% of the vote; her current term ends November 4, 2026. A fifth-generation Alabamian with deep roots in the district, she is married to Jeff Shaver since 1981, with two children and two grandsons. She is a lifelong conservative Republican, member of Tates Chapel Baptist Church, and active in Republican organizations including the Alabama State Republican Executive Committee and Cherokee County Republican groups.
Education and Political Experience
Shaver attended Gadsden State Community College and Chattahoochee Valley Community College, majoring in accounting and computer science, and continued at Jacksonville State University. Before politics, she owned Shaver Tax & Bookkeeping for nearly 10 years and had 17 years in municipal government as Town Clerk of Leesburg and with the City of Gadsden.
Notable achievements and positions include sponsoring "Gianna's Law" in 2021, requiring medical care for babies born alive after abortions, which passed and was signed by Governor Kay Ivey. She chaired the Children and Senior Advocacy Committee and vice-chaired Economic Development and Tourism in 2023-2024, and served on Public Accounts, Transportation, and Agriculture and Forestry committees. Shaver earned a 100% conservative rating from the Alabama Policy Institute, endorsements from Alabama Farmers Federation and Business Council of Alabama, and co-sponsored the 2025 Alabama K-12 Public School and State Employee Paid Parental Leave Act. She supports legislation on agriculture, taxation, and veterans' affairs, and has provided community service grants.
