Biography

Representative Gina Curry

Gina Hackett Curry was born on October 23, 1972, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 164th Legislative District in Delaware County since her election in a special election in November 2021.

Throughout her career, Curry has been dedicated to advocating for social justice, equitable opportunities, and community service. Before entering the state legislature, she worked as an educator for over 20 years, supporting youth and families in her community. She also served as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion/Racial Equity consultant and trainer, and founded Coach Your Vision LLC.

Education

Curry earned her high school diploma from the Institute of Notre Dame in 1990. She went on to receive both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Saint Joseph's University.

Political Experience

Prior Service

Before her election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Curry served as vice president of the Upper Darby School Board, where she was first elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2019.

Notable Achievements

Curry co-founded the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus in October 2023. In March 2024, she worked with caucus colleagues Representatives Morgan Cephas and La'Tasha Mayes to introduce the "Momnibus" legislative package—eight bills designed to improve maternal healthcare access statewide. The package includes provisions for Medicaid coverage of doula services, creation of a state Doula Advisory Board, coverage for blood pressure monitors for pregnant and postpartum patients, and expanded access to mental health services for pregnant or postpartum patients.

Curry is also an active member of the Chester Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and serves on the EU PEAT: Prison Education Advisory Board. She has been involved in Girl Scout leadership and youth mentoring throughout her community service career.
