Biography
Geraldo Reyes Jr.
Geraldo Reyes Jr. is an American politician serving as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives representing the 75th Assembly District of Waterbury. A member of the Democratic Party, he assumed office on April 28, 2016, and was re-elected in the general election on November 5, 2024.
Reyes has deep roots in his community and has dedicated his career to serving the people of Waterbury. He has been a district leader for the Democratic Town Committee's 75th District for over a decade and has served as President of the South End Neighborhood Association since 2015. In 2024, he was selected as a presidential elector pledged to cast his vote for Kamala Harris.
Throughout his career, Reyes has advocated for environmental concerns, mental health issues, social justice, and equity. He has received numerous community service awards, including the Waterbury Observer's Best Community Activist award multiple times, LUPA's 2014 Top 50 Most Influential Latinos in Connecticut, the Latino de Oro Politician of the Year , and the 2019 Connecticut League of Conservation Environmental Champion award.
Education
Reyes earned his bachelor's degree in industrial technology management from Central Connecticut State University and holds an associate degree in industrial technology from Waterbury State Technical College.
Political Experience
Reyes currently serves in the leadership role of Deputy Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives. He previously served as Chair of the Black Puerto Rican Caucus from 2021 to 2022 and served as vice chair of the House Commerce Committee during the 2017 legislative session.
His committee assignments include the Appropriations, Environment, and Transportation Committees, as well as the Joint Committee on Legislative Management. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Waterbury Rail Line Caucus and participates in the Manufacturing Caucus, drawing on his background as a manufacturing engineer with 36 years of industry experience.
