Biography
George E. Sykes is a Democratic member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Grafton 14 . A resident of Lebanon, New Hampshire, he has served in the House since 2012 and currently holds the position of Chair of the House Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Lebanon City Council from Ward 2 since 2019. Sykes is a retired Deputy Fire Chief of the Lebanon Fire Department, recipient of the Aubrey G. Robinson Award for outstanding service in fire prevention, and a volunteer with the American Red Cross, with deployments to disaster areas including Haiti , Puerto Rico , and several U.S. states.
Notable achievements include chairing the sub-committee that rewrote HB 1360 to prohibit certain electronic devices while driving, co-sponsoring HB 650 for bus service between Lebanon and Claremont, and helping pass HB 1616 for REAL ID-compliant driver's licenses. In 2018, he pledged legislation to ban single-use plastic bags and address refugee driver's license issues. He is married to Jayne, with one daughter, Kate.
