Biography
George Nikolakakos
George Peter Nikolakakos was born on November 24, 1979, in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, to Peter and Debra Jean Nikolakakos as the oldest of two children. He is married to Melissa Lynn Durden, whom he wed on November 22, 2003, in Reno, Nevada. They reside in Great Falls, Montana, with their four children: Story, Reagan, Melody, and Abigail.
Nikolakakos is a Republican member of the Montana House of Representatives, currently representing House District 22, which covers eastern Great Falls and Malmstrom Air Force Base. He assumed office on January 6, 2025, with his current term ending on January 4, 2027.
Military and Professional Background
Nikolakakos is a decorated veteran with 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force and Montana Air National Guard. He deployed overseas multiple times in support of operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and other locations. As an Airborne Intelligence Language Analyst, he has logged hundreds of combat hours and maintains fluency in five languages. Locally, he has served in key military roles, including Nuclear Accountability Officer at Malmstrom Air Force Base and Superintendent of Intelligence for the 120th Air Wing, Montana Air National Guard.
Beyond his military service, Nikolakakos is a successful businessman who has grown a real estate enterprise across Montana. He serves as Director of NeighborWorks Montana and the Great Falls Development Alliance, and participates as a mentor in the Veterans Treatment Court.
Education and Political Experience
Nikolakakos holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in U.S. History from Excelsior College.
He first ran for the Montana House of Representatives in 2022, winning his primary election against Marci Marceau with 58% of the vote, then defeating Kari Rosenleaf in the general election with 57% of the vote. During his first legislative session in 2023, he successfully passed seven bills, including measures cutting property taxes for low-income seniors, boosting Second Amendment rights, and reducing regulatory burdens for businesses.
His legislative achievements have earned recognition from prominent organizations. The Montana Housing Coalition named him "Montana Housing Legislator of the Year" in 2023, and the Chamber of Commerce honored him as a "Champion of Business." He serves on the Taxation and Human Services Committee in the legislature.
