Biography
George Dunbar
George Dunbar was born in 1960 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a Republican member who represented the 56th Legislative District in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. His district covered parts of Hempfield, North Huntington, and Penn townships, as well as the boroughs of Irwin, North Irwin, and Trafford.
Dunbar served seven consecutive terms in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, beginning with his election in November 2010. He and his wife, Sandy, reside in Penn Township and have four daughters: Stephanie, Erin, Alexandra, and Samantha, along with three grandchildren.
Education
Dunbar graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in 1978. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting from Robert Morris University in 1993 and obtained his CPA license.
Political Experience
Legislative Service:
Dunbar served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2011 through 2024, choosing not to seek reelection. During his tenure, he held several significant leadership and committee positions, including:

- Majority Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations and Finance committees
- Majority Caucus Chair
- Minority Caucus Chair
- Member of the Commerce, Finance, and Gaming Oversight committees
Notable Achievements:
Since taking office, Dunbar advanced three major pieces of reform legislation into law, including Act 108 of 2011, which permits the sale of county property and surplus farm products through electronic online auctions and allows county commissioners to eliminate the costly position of jury commissioner.
Current Position:
In April 2025, Dunbar was appointed to a two-year term on the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board by House Republican Leader Jesse Topper.
Pre-Legislative Career:
Before his election to the House, Dunbar served as executive vice president of Wright Industries Inc. until 2005. He then opened and operated Dunbar Consulting and Accounting from 2005 to 2007, and served as controller and chief financial officer for Ryco Inc. from 2007 to 2010. He also served as a Penn Township commissioner.
