Biography

George Grant Cleveland is a former Republican member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 14 . He lost the Republican primary election in his district on March 5 of an unspecified year prior to 2026. Cleveland had a distinguished military career spanning over four decades as a United States Marine, serving in various countries including the Dominican Republic in 1965, where he earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and later as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island. Notable achievements include sponsoring the "Standing up to Hate and Leading with our Moral Principles Act," which became law on June 28, 2024. He is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association , serving as Election Volunteer Coordinator for the 3rd Congressional District, and holds memberships in veterans' organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Fleet Reserve Association.

Education and Political Experience

Cleveland earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Maryland, College Park, after retiring from the Marines. He taught high school mathematics in Montgomery County public schools for four years and later at Notre Dame International School in Rome, Italy, while also serving as a part-time Assistant Security Officer at the American Embassy, earning a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Branch. Politically, he was elected to the North Carolina House in 2004 and served until his primary loss. Prior to politics, he operated an AMSOIL synthetic lubricants business and was active in the Jacksonville/Onslow Chamber of Commerce for over 20 years.
