About
George Alvarez is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly representing District 78 in the Bronx. Born in the Dominican Republic to a single-parent home of Afro-Caribbean heritage and modest means, he rose from humble beginnings—"from no house, to the Assembly House"—to become a community advocate, entrepreneur, job creator, and elected official. Elected in 2024 after defeating longtime incumbent José Rivera, he opened a new constituency office at 2633 Webster Avenue in Fordham Manor in April 2025. Alvarez fights for immigrant families, racial justice, affordable housing, good jobs, and addressing socio-economic disparities in his district.
