Biography
Gene Newman is a Republican member of the Mississippi House of Representatives representing District 61, which includes Pearl, Mississippi. A lifelong resident of Pearl, he graduated from Pearl schools and has been active in community service through the Pearl Kiwanis Club, emphasizing personal responsibility and local involvement. Newman owns Newman Insurance Agency with his son Russ, and he previously served as Co-Chair of the Rankin County Republican Executive Committee, Chair of municipal Republican primaries in Pearl, and as a City of Pearl Election Commissioner. He and his wife Betty are longtime members of First Baptist Church of Jackson, with two children and twelve grandchildren. Newman serves on several House committees, including Apportionment and Elections, Corrections, Judiciary B, Judiciary En Banc, Military Affairs, and Public Property .
