Biography

Gary A. Drinkwater is a Republican state representative for House District 27 in Maine, representing the towns of Alton, Argyle Township, Bradford , Corinth, Hudson, and Milford in Penobscot County. He has served since December 2018, completing four sessions as of late 2025, and currently holds the position of Ranking Member on the Labor Committee, overseeing issues like wage laws, workers' compensation, and labor relations. Previously, he ran unsuccessfully for District 121 in 2016, won it in 2018 and 2020, and was redistricted to District 27 in 2022; he was reelected in 2024. Drinkwater is retired, with past roles including owner of Drinkwater’s Auto Sales, Chair of the Milford Selectboard, and Chair of the School Board. He served six years as a sergeant in the Air National Guard . Notable legislative actions include sponsoring a 2023 bill for a school library book rating system amid concerns over race and gender materials.
