Garret Nelson is a Republican state representative for Alaska House District 29, serving the Sutton area in the Mat-Su Valley. Appointed by Governor Mike Dunleavy in late 2025 following a vacancy, he took his oath on December 30, 2025, for the 34th Legislature . A resident of Sutton for 9 years, Nelson chairs the Sutton Community Council and previously worked as a legislative staffer in Juneau for 7 years; he is also a retired Military Police First Sergeant. Born in 1984, he resides in Sutton, Alaska, with his family and works as a salesman.
