Garnet Hall - New Jersey Assembly Member
Garnet R. Hall is a Democratic state assembly member representing the 28th Legislative District in New Jersey. She was first elected in 2023 and is currently seeking her second term.
Hall is a lifelong resident of Essex County, born and raised in Montclair. She has been a resident of Maplewood for 35 years, where she resides with her husband, George Hall, a retired General Motors Union Trustee. They have two adult children: a son who serves as a Newark Police Officer and a daughter who works as a Registered Nurse. Both children graduated from the South Orange-Maplewood School District.
Her district encompasses Hillside, Irvington, Maplewood, Newark , and South Orange.
Hall's commitment to public service was shaped by formative experiences, including witnessing Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. speak in Montclair at age eight, and her father's work as a shop steward, which instilled in her the value of collective bargaining and unions. Her mother's 30-year career at Essex County Hospital Center inspired her interest in healthcare access and quality.
Education
Hall earned a degree in Business Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Before her election to the State Assembly, Hall had a decades-long career in Executive Corporate Sales. In the State Assembly, Hall serves on three committees: Consumer Affairs, Environment , and Labor. During her first term, she secured an Ambulance Unit for Newark's West Ward and $250,000 for the South Orange-Maplewood School District.
Hall has held leadership roles within her local Democratic Party, serving as Vice-Chair of the Maplewood Democratic Committee since 2007 and as a District Leader since 2005.
