Biography
Senator Gail Davenport
Gail Paulette Davenport is a Democratic member of the Georgia State Senate, representing Senate District 17, which includes portions of Clayton and Henry County. Born on March 1, she is a real estate professional by occupation and an active member of her community.
Senator Davenport is deeply involved in her local church, Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church in Jonesboro, Georgia, where she serves as a communion stewardess and participates in various committees. She is the daughter of Helen Dixon Davenport and the late Nathaniel Davenport, and sister of Carolyn Davenport.
Political Experience
Senator Davenport was sworn into the Georgia State Senate on January 10, 2011, beginning her service representing her district. Throughout her tenure, she has held membership in several important committees, including the Senate Committee on Retirement and the Subcommittee on Education and Higher Education.
She has been an active participant in numerous legislative caucuses and organizations, including the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, Georgia Legislative Women's Caucus, and the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. She served as Chairwoman of the Clayton County Legislative Delegation during the 2013-2014 term.
