Gabriel Sanchez
Georgia State Representative, District 42
Gabriel Sanchez was born in 1997 and is a member of the Democratic Party who identifies as a democratic socialist. He represents Georgia House District 42, which includes Smyrna, Cumberland, and parts of South Marietta in Cobb County. He assumed office on January 13, 2025, following his election in 2024.
Sanchez was born and raised in Cobb County, Georgia, to Colombian immigrant parents who came to the United States in 1996. He currently resides in Smyrna with his partner Anna and their pets.
Education
Sanchez earned a film degree from Georgia State University in 2018.
Political Experience
Sanchez's career in politics began as a legislative aide to Democratic State Representatives Sam Park and Park Cannon in the Georgia House of Representatives. Before his election, he worked extensively as a community organizer and advocate, including as an organizer for Atlanta's Stop Cop City movement.
Throughout his activism, Sanchez has focused on voting rights, reproductive justice, workers' rights, housing advocacy, and immigrant support. He has worked with the Latino community on driver's license access and citizenship applications, advocated against book bans in public schools, and participated in labor organizing efforts.
His campaign for the state house was endorsed by the Atlanta chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. His legislative priorities reflect his democratic socialist values, including universal healthcare, affordable housing, a $20 minimum wage, paid leave for all workers, criminal justice reform, repealing Georgia's right-to-work law, environmental protection of the Okefenokee Swamp, and public transit funding for Atlanta.
