Biography

Senator Flavio Bravo

Political Party: Democratic

District: Legislative District 26

A fifth-generation Arizonan, Flavio Bravo was born and raised in the 26th legislative district he represents. He is a third-generation Mexican-American with deep family roots in civil and labor rights movements. His grandfather was a U.S. veteran and Arizona copper miner, and his uncle was a United Farm Worker organizer, which shaped his commitment to community service and social justice.

Bravo has worked continuously as an educator, leader, and advocate focused on advancing quality of life in his community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Central Arizona Shelter Services, Open Hearts Family Wellness, and the Kino Border Initiative. He also volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona.

Education

Bravo is a proud first-generation college graduate. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago, where he served as student body president. He later received a Master's degree in Migration Studies from the University of San Francisco and was recognized as a 30 Under 30 Alumni from the university in 2021. He completed a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Graduate Fellowship in Washington, D.C., where he focused on housing and economic policy for Arizona's seventh congressional district.

Political Experience

Bravo was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2022, where he served on the Government and Regulatory Affairs Committees. In May 2023, he was appointed to the Arizona State Senate to replace Raquel Terán, who resigned to run for U.S. Congress. He won his first Senate election in November 2024 with 66.3% of the vote, defeating Republican Victor Harris. His current Senate term runs through January 2027, and he is not up for re-election until 2028.

In the State Senate, Bravo serves on the Director Nominations, Education, Finance, and Government committees. He is also an Executive Committee member of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators. In 2024, he received the Arizona Chamber of Commerce Senator of the Year award, recognizing his bipartisan approach.

Professionally, Bravo works as Program Manager for Cavco Industries' Homes for Our Own affordable housing initiative, helping first-time homebuyers navigate the homebuying process. He has also worked as an educator at Brophy College Preparatory and as a congressional staffer focused on economic and immigration policy.
