Biography
Senator Ethan Corson is a Democratic member of the Kansas State Senate representing District 7, which includes all or part of 10 cities in Northeast Johnson County. Elected in November 2020, he serves as Senate Caucus Chair and is the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary and Transportation committees, while also serving on the Assessment and Taxation, Utilities, Legislative Post Audit, and Joint Committee on Corrections and Juvenile Justice Oversight committees. Notable achievements include leading the Kansas Democratic Party as Executive Director from 2017 to 2019 through its most successful election cycle in a decade, and bipartisan efforts to eliminate the food sales tax, cut property taxes, remove taxes on Social Security, and provide targeted tax relief for seniors, veterans, and middle-class Kansans. He is recognized for strong support of public schools, first responders, lower taxes, and recruiting new businesses.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Raised in Johnson County and attended Shawnee Mission schools; played baseball at Garden City Community College as an Academic All-American; earned a Bachelor’s degree and law degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
- Political Experience: Executive Director of the Kansas Democratic Party ; elected to Kansas Senate District 7 in 2020; current roles include Senate Caucus Chair and committee leadership positions focused on judiciary, transportation, tax, and utilities issues. As of 2025–2026, he is running for Governor emphasizing education, affordability, and bipartisan governance.
