Biography
Esmeralda Zamudio Soria is a Democrat representing California's 27th Assembly District, which includes parts of Fresno, Madera, and Merced counties. A first-generation American and daughter of Mexican immigrants, she worked alongside her parents in the Central Valley's agricultural fields as a child. She is an adjunct professor at Fresno City College and a lifelong Central Valley resident dedicated to public service, focusing on working families, affordable housing, healthcare access, and economic opportunity.
Notable achievements include serving as the first Latina president of the Fresno City Council , securing funds to reopen rural hospitals like Madera Community Hospital through the Distressed Hospital Loan Program, and sponsoring 25 bills in her current session . She chairs the Assembly Agriculture Committee and serves on committees such as Governmental Organization, Banking and Finance, and select committees on Latina inequities, Native American affairs, higher education, and workforce development.
Education and Political Experience
