Biography
Erik K. Simonsen is a Republican Assemblyman representing New Jersey's 1st Legislative District, which includes Cape May County and parts of Atlantic and Cumberland counties. A lifelong resident of Lower Township, he has served in the New Jersey General Assembly since 2019 . Previously, he was a Lower Township councilman from 2011-2019 and mayor from 2017-2019, where he cut taxes, grew the municipal surplus by $1.5 million, and revitalized areas like Bay Shore and Schellenger's Landing. Notable achievements include legislation for veterans' coaching opportunities, small business funding, unemployment assistance, and reopening the Cape May County Motor Vehicle Commission. He serves on committees including Community Development and Affairs, Education, State and Local Government, and the Joint Committee on Public Schools. Outside politics, he is athletic director at Lower Cape May Regional High School, a singer/songwriter fronting the band Twelve:01 , and lives with his wife Anna and two daughters, Katya and Viktoria.
