Biography
Erik Muckey is a Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 15. He assumed office on January 14, 2025, with his current term ending January 12, 2027. Born in Platte, South Dakota, he is the sixth generation of Dutch immigrants in Douglas County. Muckey resides in downtown Sioux Falls with his wife, Sadie, a nonprofit leader, and focuses on rural economic development, mental health, and accessible healthcare and opportunities. Notable achievements include leading bipartisan legislation in 2023 that secured $2 million for youth suicide prevention, South Dakota's leading cause of death for those under 29, through his work at Lost&Found, the region's largest nonprofit for youth suicide prevention.
Education and Political Experience
- Graduated from Corsica High School.
- Earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of South Dakota in 2014.
- Served as Student Government Association President at USD and interned for the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
- Founded PASQ, a consulting firm for rural economic development and nonprofit management.
- Adjunct instructor of economics at the University of South Dakota.
- Currently serves on the Joint Committee on Appropriations and Interim Rules Review Committee, advocating for economic opportunities and bipartisan policy.
