Biography
Representative Erick Harris
Erick Harris is a Republican state representative serving Oklahoma House District 39, which includes portions of Edmond and Oklahoma City. He was elected to this position in 2024 and represents the 60th Oklahoma Legislature.
Harris is a lifelong resident of Oklahoma and a proud member of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma. He resides in Edmond with his wife, Melissa, and their two children, Olivia and Erick II. The family are members of Northeast Baptist Church.
Education
Harris earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tuskegee University, where he served as student body president. He later completed his law degree and Master's in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. While in law school, he served as editor-in-chief of a law review. He holds a license to practice law in Texas and all Oklahoma state and federal district courts as well as the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Harris also serves on Tuskegee University's board of trustees.
Political Experience and Notable Achievements
Harris brings extensive legal and government experience to his legislative role. He previously worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office and taught American Government at the University of Central Oklahoma for nearly 10 years as an adjunct professor. In private practice, he serves as Vice President for Legal Services and General Counsel for a transportation company in Oklahoma City.
In the Oklahoma House, Harris holds several significant positions. He was appointed by Speaker Kyle Hilbert as Assistant Majority Whip and serves as Vice-Chair of the Appropriations & Budget Judiciary Subcommittee and Vice-Chair of the Criminal Judiciary Subcommittee. He was also appointed to the Presiding Officer Team for the 60th Oklahoma Legislature. Additionally, Harris serves on the Oklahoma Department of Corrections board and is a member of the Republican National Lawyers Association.
A notable legislative achievement includes authoring House Bill 2610, which increased the state tax credit for nonrecurring adoption expenses from 10% to 15%, effective January 1, 2026. This measure helps ease the financial burden of adoption for Oklahoma families.
