Biography
Eric J. Weaknecht is a Republican representative for the 5th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, serving Berks County municipalities including the townships of Bethel, Bern, Centre, Heidelberg, Jefferson, Lower Heidelberg, Marion, North Heidelberg, Ontelaunee, Penn, Perry, South Heidelberg, Spring, and Tulpehocken; and the boroughs of Bernville, Centerport, Leesport, Robesonia, Shoemakersville, Wernersville, and Womelsdorf. A former law enforcement officer, he assumed office in 2025 after defeating Democrat Heather Hanna following the retirement of State Rep. Barry Jozwiak. Weaknecht previously served as sheriff of Berks County from 2008 to 2024, elected in 2007 and re-elected four times; he began his career as a deputy sheriff in 1984, advancing to assistant chief deputy in 1996 and chief deputy in 1999. Notable positions include secretary/treasurer of the Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association since 2012. For the 2025-26 session, he serves on the Housing and Community Development, Human Services, Local Government, and State Government committees.
