Biography

Eric Pettigrew is a former Democratic member of the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 37th Legislative District from 2003 to 2021. He served as House Democratic Majority Caucus Chair for ten years, becoming the highest-ranking African American in the state legislature at the time, and was known for bipartisan leadership on economic development, affordable housing, education access, and industry tax exemptions, including a $3.2 billion relief for global aircraft manufacturers. Notable awards include the 2009 Fuse "Sizzle" Award and Sizzle True Patriot Award for budget solutions. Post-legislature, he is President & CEO of Pettigrew Consulting Services, with prior roles as Community Ambassador for NHL Seattle and in government, nonprofit, and private sectors. He is married to Nicole, has three adult children, and is a grandparent.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Master of Social Work , and Business Certification.
  • Political Experience: Elected to Washington House in 2002, succeeding Kip Tokuda; chaired House Democratic Caucus starting in 2010; focused on revenue generation, progressive values, reducing teen pregnancy/STDs via Minority Youth Health Project, diversity recruitment at UW School of Social Work, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Safety under Seattle Mayor Norm Rice; retired January 2021 after 18 years.
