Biography
Eric James Murphy is a Republican member of the North Dakota House of Representatives representing District 43 , serving since 2023 alongside Zachary Ista. He is a professor at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, owner of Krampade and CamBioGene, and holds fellowships in the American Oil Chemists Society, American Society for Neurochemistry, and International Society for Neurochemistry; he is also Emeritus Editor in Chief of Lipids and serves on the Board of the Research Institute for Autonomous Systems at UND. Married to Cindy with three children, he resides in Grand Forks. Notable positions include sponsoring pro-teacher bill HB 1329 and anti-meals shaming bill HB 1494, voting to expand free school lunches, protect tenure rights, and against book bans and parental rights legislation . In 2024, he proposed legalizing abortion on request through the 15th week; he also introduced a bill to criminalize false Title IX complaints after being cleared of related accusations.
Education and Political Experience
Education: BA in Biology/History from Hastings College; PhD in Biochemistry/Neurochemistry from Ohio State University.
Political Experience: Elected to the North Dakota House in 2023 for the 69th Legislative Assembly ; active in sponsoring and voting on education, health, and policy bills.
