Biography
Emily Jordan - Virginia State Senator
Emily M. Jordan is a Republican representing the 17th District in the Virginia State Senate. Born on May 27, 1984, in Wyandot County, Ohio, she was raised in Suffolk, Virginia. Jordan is a small business owner who began her career providing media training for public safety and government officials before establishing a brick and mortar retail business in Downtown Suffolk. She is married to Andrew Jordan, a law enforcement professional, and resides in Windsor with her family. Her religious affiliation is Baptist.
Political Experience
Jordan was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in November 2017, representing the 64th District, which included Isle of Wight, Surry, and Prince George counties, along with parts of Suffolk City. She served in the House from 2018 to 2024. In 2024, she was elected to the State Senate, where she now represents the 17th District, encompassing all of Brunswick, Greensville, Isle of Wight, and Southampton counties; the cities of Emporia, Franklin, and Suffolk; part of Dinwiddie County; and part of Portsmouth City.
During her tenure in the General Assembly, Jordan has worked to secure funding for broadband internet expansion, championed workforce training initiatives, and opposed regulations on agricultural communities. She has also defended law enforcement and supported tax reduction measures, including voting to end the grocery tax and cut income taxes. In 2020, she was awarded the Emerging Leadership Award by the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership. She is a founding member of the Virginia Future Caucus.
