Biography

Senator Ellie Boldman

Ellie Boldman was born on June 30, 1975, and is an American attorney and politician serving as a Democratic member of the Montana Senate, representing District 45. She is known for her advocacy work on behalf of vulnerable populations and has been recognized as Missoula's best activist by the Missoula Independent three years in a row.

A former college athlete, Boldman considers her activism an extension of her legal work, describing herself as "an advocate for the poor." She gained prominence for her work shepherding Montana's largest homeless shelter through economic challenges.

Political Experience

Boldman previously served in the Montana House of Representatives, representing District 90 from 2011 through 2019. Due to state constitutional term limits, she was unable to seek re-election to the House and subsequently filed for the Montana Senate Seat 45 in 2020.

Her legislative work has focused on healthcare access and child welfare. In 2015, she sponsored House Bill 318, which expanded mandatory insurance coverage for children with Down syndrome in Montana, and the bill was signed into law. She also championed regulations for residential adolescent youth programs, particularly addressing concerns about abuse and neglect in religiously affiliated facilities.

Boldman served as vice chair of the House Human Services Committee and supported Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act. Beyond her state work, she has held leadership positions including a seat on the national board of directors of the National Conference of State Legislatures, National Vice President for the Young Elected Officials Network, and board membership with the American Association of University Women.
