Biography
Elizabeth Velasco is a Democratic member of the Colorado House of Representatives, representing District 57 . Elected in November 2022, she assumed office on January 9, 2023, and serves as Majority Co-Whip. Born in Mexico, she immigrated to Eagle County, Colorado, at age 16 with her family and is the first Mexican-born and first Latina member of the Colorado House. She is CEO of Global Language Services, providing interpretation for government and community events, and has worked as a wildland firefighter, public information officer , hotel manager , and in education as a paraprofessional and adjunct professor.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Battle Mountain High School in Edwards, Colorado; earned an associate's degree in culinary arts from Colorado Mountain College.
- Political Experience: In her first term , she sponsored 27 bills , chaired the Wildfire Matters Committee, and served as vice-chair of the Wildfire Matters Review Committee. Current roles include Majority Co-Whip, vice-chair of Energy & Environment, chair of Wildfire Matters Interim Committee, co-chair of Colorado Democratic Latino Caucus, and member of Agriculture/Water/Natural Resources, Transportation/Housing/Local Government, and Appropriations committees. She prioritizes community resiliency, water quality, natural resources, and working families.
