Biography
Elinor A. Levin is a Democratic member of the Iowa House of Representatives, representing District 89 since January 2023. This district covers parts of central Johnson County, including much of southern Iowa City. She is a private writing tutor, former teacher, communicator, volunteer, proud aunt, military spouse, and animal lover. Levin won her seat in the 2022 election, securing over 63% in the Democratic primary and defeating Republican Jacob Onken in the general election by over 7,000 votes. Notable community roles include President of ICCT, Leadership Committee of the South District Neighborhood Association, Board of Directors for the South District SSMID, and Voter Services Committee and Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters of Johnson County.
Education and Political Experience
Levin graduated from Cornell College in 2009 with degrees in Secondary Education and English. She taught in the Linn-Mar and Mount Vernon school districts, led student organizations, and moved to Coralville in 2009 before settling in Iowa City in 2010. She announced her candidacy for Iowa House District 89 in November 2021 following redistricting and serves on various legislative committees, including Appropriations Subcommittee and Legislative Council.
