Biography
Elías Coop-González is a Republican member of the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 67 . Among the youngest state legislators in the U.S., he ran at age 19, assumed office on December 1, 2022 , at age 20, and became the youngest delegate in West Virginia history. He defeated Democratic incumbent Cody Thompson in 2022 and won a closer rematch in 2024 by nine points; his current term ends December 1, 2026. A college student and Christian, he serves on committees including Banking and Insurance, Energy and Manufacturing, Political Subdivisions, and Veterans Affairs/Homeland Security, and led sponsorship of 16 bills in 2026 .
Education and Political Experience
- Education/Occupation: College student at Liberty University.
- Early Experience: Interned for U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney; worked for the Leadership Institute in Arlington, VA; youngest member of West Virginia's Republican National Convention delegation during Donald Trump's 2020 re-election campaign.
