Biography
Edwin Carbonell Obras is a Democratic State Representative for Washington's 33rd Legislative District , which includes SeaTac, Normandy Park, Des Moines, parts of Kent, Burien, Renton, and unincorporated King County. A proud Filipino-American, he was appointed to the Washington House of Representatives on December 10, 2024, and currently serves as Assistant Majority Whip. With over 25 years in human services, Obras focuses on affordable housing, public safety, workers' rights, and lifting up marginalized communities, including homelessness prevention, anti-hunger efforts, youth development, and services for domestic violence survivors. He previously chaired the SeaTac Human Services Advisory Committee and serves on the Board of Directors for the Filipino Community of Seattle, where he was board president for five years and now co-chairs their affordable housing capital campaign.
Education and Political Experience
- Professional Experience: Over 25 years in human services, including work with non-profits and the City of Seattle's Human Services Department for over 15 years, most recently as deputy division director.
- Political Committees: Serves on the Health Care and Wellness Committee, Labor and Workplace Standards Committee, and Community Safety Committee.
