Biography

Edna Brown was a Democratic politician from Toledo, Ohio, who served in the Ohio House of Representatives for the 48th District and the Ohio Senate for the 11th District . She was the first African American to represent Toledo in the Ohio Senate and served as Senate Minority Whip and First Vice President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus. Notable achievements include sponsoring "no excuse" absentee voting legislation that became law in 2006, earning the Jack Wolfe Memorial Award as Legislator of the Year, and advocating for voting rights, health issues like HPV immunization, violence against women, and economic development. She also held community roles such as Board of Directors for the Toledo Urban League and Vice President of the Coalition of Labor Union Women.
