Biography
Edmond Dwayne Jordan is an American attorney, insurance agency co-owner, and Democratic politician serving as the state representative for Louisiana House District 29, covering parts of East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge parishes. He assumed office in May 2016 after winning a special election runoff to succeed fellow Democrat Ronnie Edwards, defeating Vereta Tanner Lee with 59.6% of the vote, and was re-elected in the October 2023 primary, with his current term ending January 10, 2028. Notable achievements include serving as chair of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus and acting as attorney and spokesman for the family of Alton Sterling following the 2016 police shooting in Baton Rouge; he also holds committee assignments in Commerce, Insurance, Judiciary, and the House Executive Committee.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Brusly High School; earned degrees from Southern University and A&M College and Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge; has practiced law since 1998, representing clients including the Louisiana Public Service Commission, Department of Environmental Quality, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
- Political Experience: Elected to Louisiana House District 29 in 2016 special election; re-elected since, including 2023; member of Democratic Caucus, Capital Region Legislative Delegation, Acadiana Delegation, Louisiana Rural Caucus, and Legislative Audit Advisory Council; occupation also includes co-owner of Cypress Insurance Agency in Baton Rouge.
