Representative Eddy Dempsey

Eddy Dempsey was born in Idabel, Oklahoma, and has deep roots in southeastern Oklahoma. His family heritage traces back to Chief Thomas LeFlore. He grew up working in his grandfather's grocery store in Garvin and maintains strong ties to the region through his family's small farm in Valliant. Dempsey has been married for over 25 years and has two sons.
Education
Dempsey graduated from Valliant High School and earned his degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Political Experience
Dempsey was elected to represent House District 1 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2020. His district encompasses LeFlore and McCurtain counties, including towns such as Idabel, Valliant, Broken Bow, and Talihina.
Prior to his election to the House, Dempsey served as a field representative for Congressman Markwayne Mullin, where he addressed regional issues including disaster recovery efforts following the 2015 floods and storms, as well as rural water quality concerns.
Before his state-level service, Dempsey served on the Valliant School Board for five years.
Currently, Dempsey serves as Chair of the County and Municipal Government Committee and holds positions on the A&B Transportation Committee and the Conference Committee on Government Oversight. He has been active in legislative efforts, including co-sponsoring amendments to honor longtime state employees.
