Biography
Eddie Andrews is a Republican member of the Iowa House of Representatives representing District 43 . A tech entrepreneur, software engineer, app developer, and bilingual/multicultural minister from Johnston, he was first elected in November 2020, defeating Democrat Karin Derry, and is currently serving his third term . Notable achievements include chairing the International Relations Committee, co-founding the Taiwan Friendship Caucus, and serving on committees such as Health and Human Services, Natural Resources, Economic Growth and Technology, Veterans Affairs, and Commerce; he previously vice-chaired the Subcommittee on Health and Human Services Appropriations. Andrews has led efforts to expand mental health access , raise teacher pay, pass Iowa's Parental Rights Bill, and enact the state's largest tax cut, eliminating estate and retirement income taxes; in June 2025, he announced his candidacy for the 2026 Republican gubernatorial nomination.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Des Moines East High School; B.S. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Iowa; began graduate coursework at University of Massachusetts and Iowa State University; ministerial training at Purpose Institute; pursuing a master’s in biblical languages at Shiloh University.
- Political Experience: Elected to Iowa House in 2020 ; re-elected for second term and third term in District 43 ; prior to politics, founded #Mentoromics for youth coding/entrepreneurship and community groups.
