Biography

Ed Setzler is a Republican state senator representing Georgia's 37th Senate District, which includes portions of Cobb and Bartow counties. Born on March 18, 1970, in Atlanta, Georgia, he is a veteran, husband to Tracie , father of four, and an Eagle Scout. He attends St. Stephen Orthodox Christian Church in Hiram, GA, and works full-time as Managing Principal at St John Consulting Group, leading nationwide programs in architecture, engineering, and historic preservation.

Notable achievements include leading bipartisan efforts to restrict public access to criminal histories of those found not guilty, protecting due process and privacy; developing laws on drone regulation, cybersecurity, intellectual property for engineering firms, and commercial spaceflight; and advocating for sustainable growth, water, and wildlife protection, earning recognition from Georgia Conservation Voters. He currently chairs the Senate Committee on Science & Technology and serves on committees for Health & Human Services, Education & Youth, State & Local Government Operations, and Veterans, Military & Homeland Security.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Earned a BS in Physics from Furman University in 1992, designated Distinguished Military Graduate; graduate of US Army Ranger School.
  • Military Service: Served nine years on active duty as a US Army officer with leadership roles in the US, Europe, North Africa, and Persian Gulf; commanded a 200+ soldier truck company in the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, GA.
  • Political Experience: Served in the Georgia House of Representatives for 18 years , representing District 35 ; chaired House Science & Technology Committee, led Cobb legislative delegation, and served on Judiciary, Education, Transportation, Appropriations, Reapportionment, and Rules committees; elected to Georgia Senate in 2023.
