Biography

Ed McBroom is a Republican state senator representing Michigan's 38th District in the Upper Peninsula, covering counties including Alger, Baraga, Delta, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, Marquette, Menominee, Ontonagon, and Schoolcraft. Born on May 30, 1981, he serves as the Senate Republicans' Caucus Dean and previously chaired the Senate Natural Resources and Oversight committees. A fourth-generation dairy farmer, he operates his family's 100-year-old farm in Waucedah, raising Holsteins and growing corn, wheat, and hay. He is active in his community as a member of the U.P. State Fair Authority, dairy superintendent of the Dickinson County Fair, director of the Norway City Band, and music director at the First Baptist Church of Norway. Notable achievements include sponsoring 2020 legislation for DUI expungement , receiving the Silver Plow Award from the Michigan Farm Bureau, the Sunshine Award from the Michigan Press Association , and being named a 2021 Michiganian of the Year by the Detroit News. Married to Sarah with five children, he was elected to the Senate in 2018 with 54.4% of the vote after serving three terms in the Michigan House .
