Biography
Ed Clere
Edward 'Ed' D. Clere is an Indiana state legislator from Floyd County who has recently transitioned to independent status after serving as a Republican. Born on April 16, 1974, in Georgetown, Indiana, he resides in New Albany with his wife Amy and five children. Clere is a Christian and works as a self-employed real estate broker.
In a significant political shift, Clere left the Republican Party to run for mayor of New Albany as an independent, stepping away from his long-standing position in the state house.
Education
Clere earned his BS in Sociology from Indiana University Southeast in 1999. He also completed the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development.
Political Experience
Clere represented District 72 in the Indiana State House of Representatives from 2008 onward, serving his constituents for over 15 years. During his tenure, he held several key committee positions, including membership on the Education Committee and Public Health Committee. He served as a Majority Member of the Public Policy Committee and held the position of Chair of the Health and Medicaid Subcommittee within the Ways and Means Committee.
Beyond his legislative work, Clere has been actively involved in community service, serving on the boards of multiple organizations including the Floyd County Community Corrections, Cardinal Ritter Birthplace Foundation, and Develop New Albany. He has also held leadership roles in local civic organizations and received the Outstanding Service in the Public Interest Award from Indiana Optometry in 2013.
