Biography
Ed Braunstein is a Democratic Assembly Member representing New York's 26th District in Northeast Queens, including neighborhoods such as Auburndale, Bay Terrace, Bayside, Bayside Hills, Broadway-Flushing, Douglaston, Floral Park, Glen Oaks, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, North Shore Towers, Oakland Gardens, and Whitestone. Born and raised in Bayside, he now resides in Bay Terrace with his wife, Stephanie, and their three children. He serves as Chair of the Corporations, Authorities and Commissions Committee and is a member of the Health, Judiciary, Rules, and Ways and Means committees. Notable achievements include sponsoring bills signed into law, such as banning "bath salts" , making unlicensed law practice a felony , capping property tax assessment increases for co-ops and condos, providing tax credits for small businesses hiring seniors, prohibiting price gouging during emergencies, protecting consumer privacy, restricting sex offenders near schools, and expanding naloxone access to prevent drug overdoses.
Education and Political Experience
- Earned a B.S. in Finance from the University at Albany.
- Attended New York Law School and passed the bar exam in February 2009.
- Worked as a Legislative Assistant in the Assembly Speaker’s New York City office.
- Elected to the New York State Assembly in 2010 and serving continuously since then.
