Representative Dudley Greene
Edwin Dudley Greene is a Republican member of the North Carolina House of Representatives representing District 85, which encompasses Avery, McDowell, Mitchell, and Yancey counties. He has served in this position since 2021.
Greene was born in Newland, North Carolina, and currently resides in Marion, North Carolina. He is married to Allyson and has two children, Julian and Mary. He is a career law enforcement officer with extensive experience in public safety and law enforcement administration.
Education
Greene earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice and Corrections from Mayland Community College, completing his studies between 1982 and 1985.
Political Experience
Greene brings significant law enforcement background to his legislative role. He served as Sheriff of McDowell County from 2008 to 2018, initially appointed to the position and subsequently re-elected twice. Prior to his tenure as sheriff, he held several positions in law enforcement, including Detective Captain and Jail Captain with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office, Chief Detective and Chief Deputy with the Avery County Sheriff's Office, Police Chief and Police Officer with the Newland Police Department, and Agent with the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement division.
In his current legislative capacity, Greene holds several key committee positions, including Chair of Appropriations, Justice and Public Safety and Chair of the House Select Committee on Helene Recovery. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee and Vice Chair of the State Personnel Committee. Additionally, he is a member of the Judiciary II Committee and various other legislative committees focused on families, children, and aging policy.
