Biography
Duane Robert Quam II is a Republican member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 24A in southeast Minnesota, which includes the cities of Kasson and Byron, parts of Rochester, and portions of Dodge and Olmsted Counties. Born in Rochester and raised on farms in Olmsted and Dodge Counties, he resides in Byron with his wife Pat, to whom he has been married for over 34 years; they have two sons, Duey and Jacob, and grandsons Robbie and Dylan. Quam works as a scientist and engineer, serving as a department and project manager. Notable achievements include chairing the Minnesota State Academic Science Standards Writing Committee and election to the Byron School Board, where he also served on the ZED education district governing board. His key platforms emphasize smaller government, protection of individual liberties including parental and property rights, support for the 2nd and 10th Amendments, job creation through fair fees and taxes, and support for troops.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Graduated from Byron High School; B.S. in Physics, University of Texas at Dallas; M.S. in Physics, University of Texas at Dallas.
Political Experience: Ran unsuccessfully for the Minnesota House in 2002. Elected in 2010 after incumbent Randy Demmer resigned, filling the vacancy for what was then District 29A; reelected every two years since , currently in his 8th term. Serves as minority lead for the Property Tax Division of the Taxes Committee; also on Elections Finance and Policy, Health Finance and Policy, Human Services Finance, State Government Finance and Policy, Education Finance, and co-chairs Elections Finance and Government Operations.
