Biography
Senator Dru Mamo Kanuha ** represents **Senate District 3 in Hawaii, encompassing Kona, Kaʻū, and Volcano following the 2022 reapportionment. Born in Kealakekua and raised in the ahupuaʻa of Hōlualoa near the shore, his father Jerome's family has deep generational roots in the Keōpū ahupuaʻa, while his mother Debbie, originally from Pennsylvania and raised in California, has lived in Kona for over 40 years. A lifelong community servant through organizations like Kai ʻŌpua Canoe Club and his family foundation, Kanuha entered public office to advocate for his district. Notable achievements include election to the Hawaiʻi County Council in 2012, followed by the state Senate in 2018, and selection as Senate Majority Leader by the end of his first term, a leadership role he continues to hold, prioritizing issues for Kona, Kaʻū, and Volcano.

- Education: Attended Mokuʻaikaua Preschool, Kahakai Elementary, Kealakehe Intermediate and High Schools; earned a degree in political science and business administration from the University of San Diego, where he served as vice president of the Hawaiʻi Club.
