Biography

Drew Stokesbary is a Republican State Representative for Washington's 31st Legislative District, currently serving his sixth term and holding the position of House Republican Leader since April 2023.

Drew Stokesbary is a lifelong Washingtonian born and raised in the Puget Sound area near Mt. Rainier. He resides in Auburn with his wife Ashley, with whom he has been married for over 15 years, and their four sons , along with their border collie, Scout. A practicing attorney, he is a partner at the boutique law firm Chalmers & Adams , providing legal counsel to startups and emerging companies in the Puget Sound region and beyond. He is admitted to the bars of Washington and Arkansas and before the United States Supreme Court. Stokesbary serves on the Board of the Auburn Valley YMCA and founded the nonprofit Citizen Action Defense Fund to protect constitutional rights. His legislative priorities include reducing taxes and budget growth, promoting job creation through tax and regulatory reform, combating crime and drug use, and fully funding K-12 education while ensuring affordable higher education. Notable leadership roles include Minority Floor Leader, Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Committee, Chair of the Select Committee on Pension Policy, and service on committees like Finance, Pension Funding Council, Expenditure Limit Committee, and Joint Committee on Employment Relations.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Graduated from a local public high school; earned a Bachelor of Science in economics and mathematics from Duke University; graduated cum laude from Notre Dame Law School.
  • Political Experience: Served as a policy aide for a King County Councilmember after passing the bar exam. Elected to the Washington House of Representatives for the 31st District in his first run with over 60% of the vote. Elected to caucus leadership in his second term; advanced to House Minority Leader in 2023.
