Biography
Drew Darby is a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives representing District 72, which includes ten West Texas counties such as Tom Green , Coke, Concho, Glasscock, Howard, Irion, Reagan, Runnels, and Sterling, spanning the Big Country, Concho Valley, and Permian Basin. A lifelong West Texan and San Angelo native, he is an attorney and businessman who owns Surety Title and serves as Of Counsel to the Energy and Real Estate practice group at Jackson Walker. He is married to Clarisa Darby, with five children and twelve grandchildren, and they attend First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo. Notable achievements include receiving Honorary Alumnus status from Angelo State University in 2008 for authoring legislation realigning it with the Texas Tech University System, chairing The Energy Council , and memberships in the Texas Farm Bureau, National Rifle Association, and Texas Sheep and Goat Raiser’s Association.
Education and Political Experience
Education: BBA in Finance and JD, both from the University of Texas at Austin; certified in the Emerging Political Leaders Program from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
Political Experience: First elected in 2006 ; re-elected including in 2024 and 2022, with next election in 2026. Currently chairs the Energy Resources Committee and serves on House Administration and State Affairs committees. Previously chaired House Redistricting , Appropriations Subcommittee on Natural Resources/Business/Economic Development, and served on Legislative Budget Board, Higher Education, and others including Disaster Preparedness & Flooding and The July 2025 Flooding Events .
