Biography
Doug Ricks is a Republican member of the Idaho Senate representing District 34. Born in Madison County, Idaho, he grew up on a family farm there and now resides in Rexburg. A businessman and fifth-generation Idahoan, Ricks opened the first PC computer store in Rexburg in 1987 after leaving the farm at age 25. He married his wife, Melissa, on Leap Day in 1984 following a tractor ride on their first date; they have five children and four grandchildren. Influenced by his father, Mark Ricks, who served as an Idaho State Senator and Lieutenant Governor, Doug entered public service. He previously served in the Idaho House of Representatives for District 34 from 2018 to 2020 before succeeding retiring Senator Brent Hill in the Senate starting in 2020. His focus includes local government and taxation.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Associate degree from Ricks College; Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University–Idaho. Served a Polish-speaking LDS mission in Australia.
