Biography
Representative Doug Pickett
Douglas T. Pickett is a Republican member of the Idaho House of Representatives representing District 27A, having assumed office on December 1, 2022. He succeeded Scott Bedke in this position.
Pickett was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, and comes from a multi-generational ranching family. His great-grandfather, Moroni Pickett, settled the family land in 1882, and the family has operated Pickett Ranch for over 140 years. As a rancher, Pickett co-owns and operates the family ranch, which produces wheat, potatoes, beef, and lamb.
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pickett served a religious mission in Germany shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This experience witnessing repressive government regimes shaped his commitment to preserving freedom and Idaho values.
Education
Pickett graduated from Oakley Junior/Senior High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Brigham Young University in 1995.
Political Experience
Pickett has extensive involvement in Republican politics, with over 22 years of party service. His roles have included precinct committeeman, young Republican chair, county vice-chair, Cassia County Republican Party chairman, and nearly 20 years as a member of the Republican State Central Committee.
At the state legislative level, Pickett currently serves as Chairman of the House Education Committee. He was also elected Assistant Majority Leader of the Idaho House of Representatives by the House Republican Caucus. Previously, he served on the Revenue and Tax Committee.
Beyond legislative service, Pickett has been active in community leadership, serving as a commissioner of the Oakley Valley Cemetery District, vice chair of the Cassia County Gateway Powerline Task Force, and chair of the Cassia County Federal Lands Advisory Group. He also served on the Governor's Bighorn/Domestic Sheep Advisory Taskforce and has coached youth football and basketball for over ten years.
