Biography
Senator Dora Drake
Dora Drake is a Democratic state senator representing Senate District 4 in Wisconsin, which is located on the north side of Milwaukee and includes parts of Glendale, Shorewood, and Brown Deer. A born and raised Milwaukeean who grew up in the Graceland neighborhood, Drake is committed to serving her community through tangible policies focused on literacy and youth opportunities, economic stability for families, criminal justice reform, and re-entry services.
Education
Drake is a first-generation college student who was accepted into the Educational Opportunities Program at Marquette University, where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Social Welfare and Justice in 2015.
Political Experience
Following her graduation, Drake worked at JusticePoint, a nonprofit organization dedicated to criminal justice reform. She served as a Pretrial Case Manager for two years, providing court documentation and resources to clients including housing assistance, AODA treatment, and employment support. During her tenure, she collaborated with colleagues and the YWCA of Southeast Wisconsin to implement racial bias training for JusticePoint employees statewide and facilitated trauma-informed response training sessions for criminal justice professionals.
In the Wisconsin State Legislature, Drake currently serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and as Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus. She is also a member of the Senate Speaker's Task Force on Truancy.
